Blogger Men Tell All

For posts like this one, I usually have a plethora of incriminating photos of Kyle ready to be plastered all over the internet. But this time, I'm not very prepared. I had to scrape the bottom of the barrel and pull one out from his college days.

I pinky promise to come more prepared next month. ;)

Take it away Kyle!

If you had a blog, what would you call it and what would it be about?

Really? I wouldn't have a blog because I can't spell. But if I did, it would be about the ridiculous shit women say.

(Isn't he charming?.....)

*I have to be honest. His first answer involved Hitler and survival --- totally not publishable.

If you could live inside any video game, which would it be?

NHL because its the only sport I didn't play.

(It's true. He was even the captain of his high school dance team.)

Who is your best player on your fantasy football team this season?

(Apparently this question was taken very literally...)

If you could play for any professional sports team, which would it be?

Bengals cheerleaders.

(Your legs do look great in a mini skirt.)

What do you typically do with an hour of free time?

Wander my nothing box.

(Dude lives in his "nothing box." Have you seen this YouTube video? That's what he is talking about...)

All jokes aside, I'm so excited to share this space with Kyle again. He will be back the last Tuesday of every month. :)

Mallory's Eleven Month Update

Well well well. Here we are at the last monthly update before I have a ONE YEAR OLD!

Miss Mally has been keeping me on my toes lately, while she stands on hers of course. She is much more confident on her feet and happily walks with the help of her nearby couch, coffee table, chair or parents' leg.

Mallory is saying dada, mama, yes and this. She is probably using a couple more words than that, but goodness she babbles all day long! It takes me a while to put it together... ;) It is fun listening to her experiment with different sounds. Lately it sounds like she is speaking a foreign language. Lots of yodeling like sounds HA!

Changing Mal's diaper and getting her dressed is quite the production. Kyle says it's like wrangling a wild hog and I'd have to agree. She has me dreading diaper changes just as much as she does. Is this just a phase? Please...

She is still wearing size 4 diapers and 12 months in Carters. I buy her clothes in the 12 months to 2T range; it totally depends on the brand!

Mallory totally loves being outside! She has pretty much happy across the board as long as we are outdoors. I suppose I can't complain much about that. ;) She still puts any and everything in her mouth. Among her favorites are rocks, dirt and grass. She has also taken up licking things which is always good for a laugh from Mom and Dad. At some point I'm sure it will stop being funny...

One of my favorite developments this past month was Mally started giving kisses!! The mouth wide open kind...so sweet! She can be kind of stingy with her kisses, she has to be in the right mindset. Can we hold that against her? I think not.

We have been spending lots of weekdays at Turf Time. Mallory loves watching the other kids play, crawling around like a crazy person and licking all the toys. Kyle was able to join us for the first time a week or so ago. :) It's amazing how early they start to interact differently with each parent. They play totally different together than Mal and I do.  (Check out the wild hair day she was having! Hehe!)

And just like that I'm less than a month away from having a one year old. This parenting gig is a real trip! It's nearly impossible to imagine what our lives were like before we had Mal...It's just way too good now.
We love you kiddo!

Pyrah's Fall Festival

It seems like Kyle is out of town for the better part of this season, so I was pumped when a family activity actually lined up with a weekend he was home! Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm is Alaska's largest U-Pick location and just a few miles from our house! (Remember, I just tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago!) Each year they host a fall festival to celebrate the harvest! Since fall lasts approximately 30 seconds here in Alaska, we just had to partake in the festivities. They had a little bit of everything fall! Angry spuds, corn maze, potato sack races, hay rides, and a leaf throwing pit just to name a few.

I wasn't expecting the fields to be open, but sure enough, they were! We were planning on making this Zuppa Toscana copycat recipe for dinner that night, so we decided to pick some fresh potatoes and kale while we were there. (That recipe turned out amazing! Definitely recommend it.)

While we were further away from the commotion, we decided to take advantage of the great weather and beautiful scenery to snap a few photos. I was kicking myself for not throwing on some make up and bringing my tripod...Christmas cards anyone?! Ha!

One of our only complaints about this event was that they just didn't seem prepared for such a large turnout. The lines were insane by the time we made our way back from the fields! Also, the "pumpkin patch" wasn't very impressive, so we left empty handed in that regard. BUT, we had a great time nonetheless. In fact, just as the lines were starting to get long, we grabbed a couple of barbecue sandwiches, a funnel cake and a slice of pumpkin pie.  If pumpkin pie doesn't get you in the mood for fall, I don't know what will. ;)
Do you have any fall festivals in your area?

My First ipsy Glam Bag

I've confessed my love for subscription boxes in the past, right? I just had to spill about the latest one to join my subscription box family. (Ok well, this one is a bag, but you get my point.) I joined the wait list for ipsy a few months ago and finally got my first glam bag this week! After just one experience, I can already tell that this one is right up my alley!

Photobombing my own stuff.... FAIL!

Each month with ipsy you will receive a healthy mix of deluxe samples and full sized beauty products all tucked into an adorable little bag. I'm more than happy to accumulate these little guys as they will help me organize the Marry Poppins like diaper bag I'm workin' with. The subscription costs you $10 a month and you definitely get your money's worth!
Here's what I got!

Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush || This brush retails for $6.99. It is so soft and applies shadows effortlessly. Something about this brush makes me feel like I have more control over where I place product on my lid. Admittedly, I'm not a big eyeshadow girl, so a brush like this one is brand new to my collection!
Hot Singles Eyeshadow by NYX - ADDICTION || This product retails for $4.50. Again, eye shadow isn't a major part of my beauty routine. I normally reserve eye shadow for special occasions only, but I did through some on today, you know, for research purposes. ;) This shadow is surprisingly pigmented and paired with my new brush, it applied evenly. I don't hate it...
Water- Proof Eye Pencil by Pacifica - FRINGE || The full size version of this product retails for $11.00. The brand Pacifica prides itself on being 100% vegan and cruelty free which is pretty cool! The color they sent me is exactly what I like to wear. I've only swatched this on the back of my hand so far, and it was a very smooth application. I will get back to you after I've worn it all day.

Don't Despair, Repair | Deep Conditioning Hair Mask || The full size version of this product retails for $26.00. I used this the night I received my ipsy glam bag in the mail! You know I'm all about a good hair mask... This wasn't it. :( I wanted to love it, really! It didn't really leave my hair feeling any softer and I ended up having to shampoo my hair again just to get the sticky residue out. I will certainly give it another shot, but my first impression wasn't so hot.
Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss Stick - Basic Instinct || This product retails for $19.00. Amazing! Hands down my favorite product in this glam bag. I love the formula and the color selection  is outstanding! After wearing it for a few hours, it was staying with me! Staying power is the key to my heart when it comes to lipstick. I will certainly be purchasing this stuff in additional shades!

An added little bonus with ipsy is that each company offers you a promo code should you choose to purchase additional products from them. For example, that lip gloss stick I got came with a promo code giving me 20% off my purchase plus 2 deluxe samples! Twist my arm why don't ya!

You can sign up for your own ipsy glam bag subscription here!

Happy Wednesday!

Oh hey, Friday!

Ahhh. Friday. Thank you for gracing us with your presence! Cheers to two blissful days of co-parenting. ;)

Here are a handful of happenings from our neck of the woods this week...

ONE || Taking photos of Mally is quite the ordeal lately. She has about 99 things to do and sitting still for pictures ain't one! Between the dogs playing and Mal getting her hands on my lens cap, it's a wonder I got any photos at all. Oh the struggle... ;)

bow || top || leggings

TWO || Do you remember me telling you I was eye screwing this Michael Kors bag? Well, wouldntcha know it, that baby is on sale at the PX!!! Someone please hit me with the "just buy the bag already" lecture please...(Kyle, mind your own business.)
THREE || Pending the Army's cooperation, I get to sneak out of the house this weekend for a hair appointment!!! Is there anything better than somebody else washing your hair? I mean honestly?  I'm just getting some more highlights, but I'm a bit nervous since I'm trying someplace new... The place I've been loyal to since moving to Alaska kind of pissed me off when I called to schedule a trim last week. They went out of their way to "remind" me that children were not welcome in their salon. I get it, kids can be a mega salon wet blanket, but ehh -- it just rubbed me the wrong way. I try to schedule appointments when Kyle is available, but hey... shit happens! So I will take my wet blanket child money elsewhere!
This is the photo I'm taking with me to show the stylist the "cool" blonde color I'm looking for.

FOUR || I'm a sucker for those daily deals sites. This Coco to My Chanel Top made it into that little online shopping cart two nights ago! I'm thinking this will go perfectly with black skinny jeans, a top knot and some Chucks. (Psst! This top is still available and it's only $13.99! Get yours here!!)
FIVE || Online shopping for fall themed pieces to include in Monday's link up has been a blast! I'm thinking I will have three categories; Mama (clothes), Mal (clothes) and home (decor/recipes)... Things are quickly spiraling out of control. Ha! Hope to see you and your shopping list there! ;)
Your turn!

A Pregnancy Story

The week for "Throwback Thursday" I wanted to share my pregnancy with Mallory, or "Baby M."  Bear with me as this post is a bit on the lengthy side. I tried to take detailed notes to have for us to look back on and I pinky promise to take better photos the next time I'm pregnant!

Here we go!

Kyle and I found out I was pregnant on February 26, 2013 while we were staying in Edmonton during our move to Alaska. We knew something was up because I was ravenous! I was out eating Kyle by a long shot!  So, Kyle suggested we grab a test [...or 7] and sure enough; I was pregnant!

This date was extra special because it is also my Cancerversary. :)

After arriving in Alaska, I scheduled my very first OB appointment! We answered 9,000 questions about our family history and got a little sneak peak at our precious baby.

Baby M at 8 weeks
For the first several weeks, I felt miserable! I lost quite a bit of weight due to morning sickness [ahem, all day sickness] which lasted until about 12 weeks. Kyle pretty much hated life during those first weeks. Me, Kyle and both of the dogs were living in a hotel. He was learning a new job. We were buying a house and I was a wretched, hormonal bitch. Oops!

baby bump at 13 weeks

13 Weeks Pregnant || We waited until the first trimester was over to announce my pregnancy to the world. It felt so good to finally get out more now that I was feeling a little better. Baby M even let me hike Bodenburg Butte!

baby bump at 14 weeks

14 Weeks Pregnant || I swear we make the bed! I started wearing maternity pants at this point. The ol' hair tie trick just wasn't cutting it anymore!

baby bump at 15 weeks

15 Weeks Pregnant  || We scheduled an appointment for week 16 to hopefully confirm Baby M's sex! We couldn't wait to share that with everyone!

baby bump at 16 weeks

16 Weeks Pregnant || During our 12 week NT scan the sonographer "guessed" that we were having a girl using the "nub theory", but it wasn't confirmed until now. I was absolutely thrilled to be expecting a baby girl! Kyle's response: "Grrreeat. Now, rather than worrying about one penis, I have to worry about everyone else's". HA! Lovely Kyle.

baby bump at 17 weeks

17 Weeks Pregnant || I definitely began to feel little flutters. I suspect I was feeling them even sooner than this but everyone SWORE I wasn't since this was my first pregnancy.

baby bump at 18 weeks

18 Weeks Pregnant || Kyle and I took a 5 week child birth course offered by our hospital. It was OK. No earth shattering information but did prompt us to have some conversations about our birthing preferences sooner rather than later. We also ran in Anchorage's first ever Color Run!

baby bump at 19 weeks

19 Weeks Pregnant ||  Baby M is the size of a Cantaloupe! She has fingernails, yawns and hiccups, kicks/flips/punches, functioning tastebuds and her eyelids and eyebrows are developed. Pretty crazy stuff!

baby bump at 20 weeks

20 Weeks Pregnant || This week marks "halftime" of the pregnancy. Holy cow! We asked our family and friends to say a quick prayer for M's anatomy scan this week. Throughout the pregnancy I was pretty chill about things, but this scan gave me a little anxiety. Everything look absolutely perfect!

baby bump at 21 weeks

21 Weeks Pregnant || I was feeling M move around very regularly at this point! Kyle walked in from work one day this week and said "wow! you look plump!" How sweet.... But I'm so thankful that she's happy and we're both healthy!

baby bump at 22 weeks

22 Weeks Pregnant || Kyle got to feel the baby kick for the first time this weekend and it seems like she hasn't stopped moving since! I think I'm growing a spaz!

baby bump at 23 weeks

23 Weeks Pregnant || She continues to move around more and more each day and I love it! We are looking forward to hitting the 24 week mark and our OB appointment next week.

baby bump at 24 weeks

24 Weeks Pregnant || Baby was measuring perfectly at the 24 week appointment; I however, was measuring MASSIVE. My OB told me I had already gained all of the weight I was supposed to for the entire pregnancy! I was so frustrated about this because I really didn't feel that my caloric intake was that much higher and I was still exercising 6 days a week.

baby bump at 25 weeks

25 Weeks Pregnant || Our family and friends threw us the most wonderful baby shower during this week. Even though we were so far away, they set up a video feed so they could watch us open gifts! The invitations even included little shower games that we could play from afar! This is also the week I pretty much stopped running regularly and began walking/jogging.

baby bump at 26 weeks

baby bump at 27 weeks

26/27 Weeks Pregnant || Not much to report, just feeling large and in charge...

baby bump at 28 weeks

28 Weeks Pregnant || Officially in the THIRD trimester! We had the screening for gestational diabetes this week. I failed the first glucose test and passed the second.

baby bump at 29 weeks

29 Weeks Pregnant || Still feeling pretty decent and the nesting instinct was in full effect! Mallory's nursery was just about finished at this point.

Army Formal

baby bump at 30 weeks

30 Weeks Pregnant || Kyle and I attended his Brigade's Ball. No heels for this gal! Feet were SWOLLEN!

baby bump at 31 weeks

31 Weeks Pregnant || Braxton Hicks contractions and shortness of breath were in full swing! I was starting to feel very ready to meet baby M.
baby bump at 32 weeks

32 Weeks Pregnant || This was a very exciting milestone for us to reach as the health issues associated with M being born at this point are less severe.

baby bump at 33 weeks

33 Weeks Pregnant || Kyle showed me up and packed his hospital bag and installed M's carseat this week (in my defense he was going out of town for a few weeks so he had to get it done).

baby bump at 34 weeks

34 Weeks Pregnant || I started wearing the belly support band this week because I was having some hip pain.  I would definitely suggest getting one since it provided enough relief to make walking and laying down comfortable again. This week marks another pregnancy milestone as our OB no longer tries to "stop" pre term labor; they don't encourage it, but Baby M is big and strong enough to do ok (with help) if she were born now.

baby bump at 35 weeks

35 Weeks Pregnant || No longer wearing my wedding rings :( Sleeping is nearly impossible at this point. Between the heartburn, hormones, hugeness and obnoxiously loud snoring, I'm convinced I will sleep more once M arrives.

baby bump at 36 weeks

36 Weeks Pregnant || Feelin' huge and well...huge. We met with a lactation consultant this week for a mini breastfeeding lesson and to ask any lingering questions we had.

Mallory was born at 36 weeks and 4 days!
